Jackson County database helps families trace enslaved ancestors

KANSAS CITY, Mo. (KCTV) – For many Black families, slavery erased names, records and history. Now, a new database in Jackson County is trying to put those names back within reach.

Reggie James has long studied the past. His family’s history is no different.

“I knew nothing,” James said.
