KANSAS CITY, Mo. (KCTV) – A federal court has released a Kansas City man who spent nearly 30 years in prison for a 1988 construction site fire that killed six firefighters, citing his youth at the time and his rehabilitation behind bars.
Richard R. Brown, now in his mid-50s, was released after the U.S. District Court for the Western District of Missouri granted him compassionate release and vacated his life sentence, according to a Feb. 27 order.
Brown’s father confirmed his son’s release, saying his prayers have been answered. An appeal process is still underway…
