Train noise near these Shawnee homes will cease after city closes foot path across railroad

The City of Shawnee is looking to close a pedestrian path near a railroad crossing in a western part of the city to address complaints from residents about train noises.

At a Shawnee City Council meeting on Feb. 23, Shawnee Assistant City Manager Lauren Grashoff announced that the city is pursuing erecting barriers around the railroad in the 4400 block of Lakecrest Drive so that trains no longer have to make noise when they stop or pass through.

The issue stems from complaints to the city last year from residents in the nearby Riverview subdivision about noises from passing trains and crossing bells…
