Kansas City launches Department of Community Safety with $20M budget, 120 new jobs

KANSAS CITY, Mo. (KCTV) – Kansas City is launching a new Department of Community Safety designed to keep people out of jail and help those who have been incarcerated get back on their feet. The department comes with a $20 million budget and plans to hire 120 new employees.

The department will partner with local nonprofits to fill gaps the city cannot cover alone, according to officials. A total of 148 employees will run the corrections facility, staff intervention programs, and provide support services.
