KC businessman, lawyer convicted of contempt for hiding ties in $100M FTC case

KANSAS CITY, Mo. (KCTV) – A Kansas City businessman and his attorney were convicted of hiding their personal relationship during a federal fraud case.

Charles F. Anderson, 81, and his lawyer Robert P. Smith, 80, were convicted on Tuesday, March 24, following a 6-day bench trial, according to the U.S. Attorney’s Office for the Western District of Missouri.

Prosecutors said the court found both men willfully violated a court order requiring truthful, accurate and complete financial disclosures in a civil action brought by the Federal Trade Commission and the State of Missouri…
