KANSAS CITY, Mo. (KCTV) – A railroad bridge built in 1905 that sat unused over the Kansas River since the 1970s opened to the public Wednesday as the world’s first entertainment district built on a bridge over a river.
The Rock Island Bridge at 1799 American Royal Drive is now a 25,000-square-foot public space with more than 300 casual seats and can hold up to 1,500 people.
“We expect to have 500,000- 700,000 people a year out here enjoying a glass of wine, some live music, dinner, maybe a farmer’s market, looking at the Kansas River,” said Michael Zeller, Rock Island Bridge founder.
