“OMG. It’s Our Lady”: Fans Blown Away After Spotting Hidden Century-Old Detail In Kansas City’s New $2 Billion Stadium

Kansas City’s sports scene is changing fast. In December 2025, the Chiefs announced they’re leaving Arrowhead for a $3 billion domed stadium in Wyandotte County, Kansas, set to open in 2031.

And recently, on Wednesday, the Royals and Hallmark Cards followed up with their own $1.9 billion ballpark at Crown Center. The project is part of a $3 billion, 85-acre redevelopment in the middle of downtown.

It is now a major event for state and local leaders, with construction scheduled to start in 2027. However, when fans looked closely at the new designs, they noticed a hidden detail that left them off guard.

Kansas City fans go crazy seeing 102-year-old church next to Royals’ new stadium

The new ballpark is slated to sit at 2501 McGee Street in the Crown Center district. It will give fans direct access via the KC Streetcar route and roughly 9,000 parking spots within a 10-minute walk, while the construction phase alone is projected to create over 20,000 jobs.

Kansas City Mayor Quinton Lucas confirmed the goal is to open by 2030 with a 30-year lease. While the stadium specs are solid, a nearby landmark stole the attention online. Renderings show Our Lady of Sorrows, a 102-year-old Catholic church at 26th and Gillham, will remain untouched as the $2 billion stadium rises around it…
