Smithville man due in Clay County Court on child molestation charges

CLAY COUNTY — Arraignment in Clay County Court is Wednesday, May 27, for a Smithville man accused of child molestation.

According to the probable cause statement on April 7, police were dispatched to the residence of Joseph P. Napolitano after receiving a call from a female child saying that he was threatening his own life. Upon arrival, multiple officers located Napolitano inside, and he impulsively stated that he had inappropriately touched his daughter. Upon speaking to the victim, officers learned that she woke up to Napolitano whispering in her ear while inappropriately touching her. She then attempted to call her mother, but Napolitano took her phone, preventing her from doing so…
