Jackson County legislators hold listening session at Lake Jacomo

LEE’S SUMMIT, Mo. (KCTV) – On Thursday night, three Jackson County legislators participated in a listening session on Lake Jacomo. It was scheduled after public pushback on an ordinance put forward last month looking to increase the horsepower limit on the lake. Legislators that attended the listening session stated the ordinance was off the table at this time.

“I’m not going to introduce it, and I guarantee you Sean [Smith] isn’t going to introduce it,” said Legislature Chairman Manny Abarca. Legislature Vice Chair Sean Smith also attended, as well as 1st District At-Large Legislator Jalen Anderson, who stated he was “completely” against increasing the horsepower limits at Lake Jacomo.

Nearly 100 people attended this listening session. Some made and brought signs to voice their opposition to any changes to the horsepower limits. Once legislators made it clear that withdrawn and nothing else is in the works, they asked if there was anything else people would like to see addressed at Lake Jacomo.

There were several maintenance and safety concerns. Some of the top things mentioned were fixing buildings, restrooms, and boat ramps, as well as adding more lights, creating more kayak launch areas, wanting to see more water patrol, and more boating and safety education for people renting pontoons, among other things…
