KANSAS CITY, Mo. (KCTV) – The Kansas City, Kansas Police Department is asking for volunteers, foster families and donations after KCK Animal Services responded to a home where 30 dogs were found abandoned without food or water, according to a Facebook post from the department.
Police said the dogs were left inside a home by renters who “simply vanished.” The department said it’s unclear exactly how long the dogs were alone, but it was long enough that the animals had begun chewing and eating parts of the home’s walls.
KCKPD’s stressed the situation is part of a broader problem tied to pet ownership, including people not spaying or neutering pets, abandoning animals and assuming someone else will step in to help.
KCK Animal Services is operating with four officers and a total staff of nine, and the shelter is “as full as it ever has been,” the department said. Still, officials said Director Ashley Scott called in staff and volunteers and the agency was able to rescue and complete intake on all 30 dogs…
