Shake Shack to open 10th Houston-area location in Richmond soon

A popular East Coast burger chain is expanding deeper into Whataburger territory. Shake Shack is officially making its Richmond debut on July 8 at 19130 W Bellfort St., marking its second Houston-area opening in just three months.

The New York-based restaurant chain opened a location across from Meyerland Crossing in April, Chron previously reported. With the Richmond opening, Shake Shack will have 10 locations in Greater Houston and 32 across Texas. The move further expands the brand’s footprint in one of the country’s most competitive burger markets.

While Shake Shack is best known for its customizable burgers, crispy chicken sandwiches, hand-spun milkshakes and crinkle-cut fries, the chain actually started out as a hot dog cart. The original Shake Shack opened in New York City’s Madison Square Park to support a public art project before becoming a permanent kiosk in 2004, according to the company’s website.
