A Japanese grill bowl concept born at POST Houston has planted its flag in Katy, opening its second Greater Houston location inside Katy Asian Town this September. The new spot at 23015 Colonial Parkway, Ste. A105, brings Nikubol’s customizable bowls of grilled meats and sauces to the western suburbs, along with a dedicated Nikubar.
Restaurant representatives confirmed the opening to Community Impact Newspaper, which describes Nikubol as a fast-casual Japanese restaurant specializing in customizable Japanese-inspired bowls. Per the same account, the Katy location includes the Nikubar, where dine-in guests can utilize a self-serve bar of sides, salads and soup to round out their meal.
What Goes Into a Nikubol Bowl
On its own site, Nikubol describes itself as a Japanese grill bowl brand serving fresh-grilled meats, bold sauces and customizable bowls, with each order starting from a choice of rice, salad or udon as the base. The brand says its bowls come topped with premium meat and classic Japanese sides, plus fresh toppings and signature sauces.
A Yelp listing for the restaurant describes a different base lineup, with bowls served over rice, salad or a grilled wrap rather than udon. The two accounts also diverge on protein: Nikubol’s website and the Community Impact report point to chicken, beef or pork, while the Yelp listing adds smoked duck as a fourth option, saying every bowl is built to order with chicken, beef, pork or smoked duck.
