DeMeco Ryans Named PFWA Coach of the Year

Houston Texans head coach DeMeco Ryans is a finalist for the Associated Press Coach of the Year , but he has already reeled in one award in that category as of Thursday.

The Pro Football Writers of America named Ryans its Coach of the Year on Thursday, signifying the culmination of a strong season in Houston that exceeded expectations in a rebuild.

This isn’t the first time the PFWA has honored Ryans coaching efforts, as he won the NFL Assistant Coach of the Year award in 2022.

Winning this award from the PFWA is not always an indication that a coach will win the same award from the NFL, but last season, the honors from the association and the NFL were the same.

Ryans is one of five finalists who could win the award from the league, alongside Dan Campbell (Detroit Lions), Kyle Shanahan (San Francisco 49ers), John Harbaugh (Baltimore Ravens), and Kevin Stefanski (Browns).

The winner of the NFL’s Coach of the Year award will be announced with the rest of the league’s awards on Feb. 8.
