Man allegedly posed as minor online to meet and kill child predator

A Texas man, James Spencer III, aged 22, is facing murder charges in connection with the death of Sean Connery Showers, aged 37. According to authorities, Spencer is accused of posing as a minor to lure Showers, a convicted sex offender, whom he subsequently met and killed.

The Houston Police Department alleges that the incident occurred in May 2023 when Spencer shot and killed Showers. Police say Showers approached a vehicle during the early morning hours of May 29, where he was shot by an unidentified suspect at the time. Following an investigation, police arrested Spencer, who reportedly confessed to the murder. Showers was discovered in a ditch with multiple gunshot wounds.

According to reports from Click 2 Houston and ABC 13, Spencer allegedly misrepresented his age online to entice Showers, pretending to be a minor and using the pretext of sexual activity, as he believed Showers was a sex offender.

Showers had previously pleaded guilty to possessing child sex abuse material in 2009, as reported by federal authorities at the time. He received a 30-month prison sentence and an additional two-year sentence in 2019 for failing to register as a sex offender.
