A team of professors and researchers from Prairie View A&M University (PVAMU) in Texas are working to change the perception of social change in the South. They have published a special edition journal, ‘The Social, Cultural, and Political Contours of the Black and Brown Experience in the Bayou City.’ The journal aims to highlight the experiences of Black and Brown Texans and the slow progress of social change in the South. The team includes former PVAMU Professor Dr. Will Guzmán, now at North Carolina Central University, Dr. William T. Hoston, a political science professor at PVAMU, and PVAMU History Department faculty members Drs. Malachi D. Crawford and Marco Robinson.
The team’s goal is to boost research productivity in the Division of Social Sciences and encourage more discussion. They aim to show how Black Americans and Latinx individuals have contributed to social change. The journal aims to offer new historical insights and deepen understanding of Black and Brown history, especially in Houston.
