Dr. Richard Griffin, a professor at Prairie View A&M University, has received two grants totaling almost $170,000. These grants come from Kansas State University and Harris County, through the US Department of Agriculture-NIFA. The $30,000 grant from Kansas State University will fund a project on sorghum nitrogen response trials in Texas. The goal is to help develop modern, climate-friendly sorghum nitrogen fertility guidelines.

The second grant, worth $138,250, comes from the Harris County Soil and Water Conversation District. This grant will fund a soil monitoring project in the 15-acre Coastal Prairie Management Area in Harris County. The project aims to study the differences in soil physical and chemical properties.

The soil monitoring project will look at the relationship between surface cover, soil compaction, surface soil color, and structure. It will also study the correlation between pH, electrical conductivity, and soluble minerals. The research hopes to provide useful information about soil properties and their relationship with various factors.
