Houston, Texas — U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement’s (ICE) Enforcement and Removal Operations (ERO) Houston Field Office has deported a 29-year-old Guatemalan national, Marcos Rafael-Medrano, wanted in his home country for robbery. Rafael-Medrano was removed from the U.S. on October 28 following his detention and conviction in Texas for driving while intoxicated.

Rafael-Medrano entered the United States illegally near Sasabe, Arizona, on May 30, 2023, and was initially apprehended by Border Patrol. However, he was released on his own recognizance on June 1, 2023, while awaiting immigration proceedings. In late June, he was arrested in Montgomery County, Texas, for evading arrest and driving while intoxicated. He was convicted of DWI in August and sentenced to 60 days in jail.

ERO Houston took custody of Rafael-Medrano after his release from the Montgomery County Jail and placed him in immigration proceedings. A judge ordered his removal to Guatemala on September 26, and on October 28, ICE officers deported Rafael-Medrano, who was handed over to Guatemalan authorities upon arrival at La Aurora International Airport in Guatemala City.
