Cy-Fair’s streak as one of Texas’ fastest-growing districts will end soon as enrollment stabilizes

Cy-Fair ISD’s enrollment is expected to decline slightly over the next 10 years, ending its run as one of the fastest-growing districts in Texas, according to a new demographics report.

With 118,057 students, Cy-Fair ISD remains Texas’s third-largest school district, after only Houston and Dallas ISDs, which have both been hemorrhaging students over the last decade. Cy-Fair is expected to lose between up to 4,000 students by 2034, depending on how factors like the pending school voucher legislation play out.

Historically, the district has grown by anywhere from as much as 3,800 students each year, with the only exception being 2020-2021 due to the COVID-19 pandemic. But despite demographers forecasting an additional 900 students for this academic year, enrollment actually fell by 400 students…
