HOUSTON (KIAH) — A deadly crash on the I-10 East Freeway near Beltway 8 is causing major traffic issues on Monday afternoon.
The accident happened around 2:15 p.m. in the westbound lanes of I-10. Authorities with the Harris County Sheriff’s Office said that three vehicles were involved in in the crash, and Sheriff Ed Gonzalez said that the freeway will be shut down for possibly three hours.
Gonzalez said that a box truck had engine issues and began to slow down to about 15 miles per hour. Several cars swerved out of the way of the truck, but a Chevrolet Silverado pickup truck could not avoid hitting the truck, and struck it.
Two people were in the Chevy pickup truck, with a person in the passenger side being declared dead at the scene. The driver of the pickup truck was taken to the hospital for precautionary reasons…
