Suspect in Mother’s Day crash that killed child has criminal history

CONROE, Texas — The man charged in a fiery crash that killed a 3-year-old girl and left her mother and sister hospitalized with severe burns has a prior criminal record that includes a conviction for driving while intoxicated, according to state records.

Donald Leon Carson, 55, is facing charges of intoxication manslaughter and two counts of intoxication assault in connection with Sunday night’s wreck on Interstate 45 near FM 1488. Investigators said Carson’s Honda Civic veered onto the inside shoulder and slammed into the back of a disabled Toyota Camry, which quickly burst into flames with a young family trapped inside.

Inside the Camry were Shavon White and her daughters — 3-year-old Camiria, who died at the scene, and 5-year-old Chloe, who was pulled from the burning car with critical injuries. Bystanders rescued White and Chloe before the car was fully engulfed. Both remain hospitalized with severe burns…
