Texas Man Hired to Move Boxes Makes Grisly Discovery

HOUSTON, Texas — What was supposed to be a routine moving job turned into a nightmare when a hired helper opened a box and found not keepsakes or decorations—but a corpse.

Here’s what we know…

The stranger hired to move some boxes showed up at the home of 36-year-old Steven Eberly in Northwest Houston on the morning of May 16. He quickly spotted a dead body in one of the boxes he was paid to move, prompting him to jump into the driver’s seat of Eberly’s truck and drive away. Eberly allegedly jumped into the truck bed and started breaking windows, trying to stop the stranger from escaping.

The stranger crashed the truck, and Eberly fled the scene on foot. The incident spurred a 911 call over and hit-and-run. Deputies traced the truck back to Eberly’s home, where they found the hidden body and arrested him for murder.

According to Harris County Sheriff Ed Gonzalez, Eberly killed a contractor who was working on a project at his home. It appeared the man had not been dead for long. Deputies believe the contractor was killed within a few days of the time authorities were alerted to it…
