Heights’ beloved cultural sanctuary Casa Ramirez to close doors by end of ’25

HOUSTON — Casa Ramirez Folkart Gallery in the Heights is closing at the end of 2025 marking the end of an era. The longtime community hub will wrap things up with a series of cultural events planned for the rest of the year.

Macario Ramirez founded Casa Ramirez in 1985 with the aim of preserving Latin American, Mexican, and Southwestern heritage. He operated the store alongside his wife, Chrissie Ramirez, until his passing in June 2020. After five years of managing the gallery alone, Chrissie Ramirez is retiring.

“I will be 79 later this year and want to have a less scheduled life and more leisure time to travel and do other things that I truly enjoy,” Ramirez said…
