Houston man sentenced to 27 years for drug trafficking and firearm possession

HOUSTON, Texas — A 33-year-old Houston man has been sentenced to 27 years in federal prison for drug trafficking and firearm possession, according to U.S. Attorney Nicholas J. Ganjei. Fredrick Douglass Shelton pleaded guilty to possession with intent to distribute fentanyl and methamphetamine and being a felon in possession of a firearm.

U.S. District Judge Kenneth M. Hoyt ordered Shelton to serve 324 months in federal prison, followed by five years of supervised release. During the sentencing, the court acknowledged the families of the deceased and noted Shelton’s continued drug sales despite knowing the lethal risks. “The defendant’s conduct in this case vividly illustrates his utter disregard for human life and the safety of others,” said Ganjei.
