Houston Doctor Agrees to Pay $390K to Settle Medicare Fraud Allegations

Dr. Benjamin Tiongson, 68, who practices in Houston, Sugar Land, and Katy, agreed to pay $390,082 to settle allegations of falsely billing Medicare for neurostimulator electrode implantations that were not performed. From December 7, 2021, to December 14, 2022, he submitted claims for invasive procedures that usually require an operating room, but patients instead received non-surgical treatments, as reported by the U.S. Attorney’s Office.

According to the U.S. Attorney’s Office, Tiongson and his staff did not perform the surgical procedures they billed for. Instead, the investigation found that patients received electro-acupuncture involving wires inserted into the ear, not the more invasive neurostimulator implants listed in the billing records…
