Houston’s Wave Pool Project Announced It’s Swapping Endless Surf Technology for Wavegarden

Wavegarden announced its official partnership with HTX Surf Club Friday, making one of the company’s Wavegarden Cove pools the centerpiece of the project in Houston, Texas. The new development will feature a 52-module cove with 20 different wave types in a 5.5-acre surf lagoon.

It’s an interesting turn for the HTX club. The June 6 announcement comes after years of reports that the Texas surf park would utilize Endless Surf – the technology used at Munich’s new O2 Surftown MUC pool. Endless Surf, HTX Surf, Wavegarden, and Beach Street Development (the company behind HTX) didn’t immediately respond to requests for comment to explain their decision to swap pool technologies.

But an insider talked about the change with The Inertia’sEvan Quarnstrom. “It’s a business decision about the economics of the project, not a quality of wave decision,” said the insider, who wished to remain anonymous. “Wavegarden has the cheaper solution right now and also operates more efficiently, using a lot less power.”…
