Houston voters support using public money to renovate NRG Stadium and the Astrodome, poll shows

A majority of Harris County voters support using public money to help renovate NRG Stadium and the Astrodome, according to a new poll released Thursday by the University of Houston’s Hobby School of Public Affairs.

About 74% of the 2,300 surveyed voters said they support using some level of public funding to renovate NRG Stadium, though a slight majority said the public share should not exceed 20% of the total costs. About 62% said they would support Harris County using public money to renovate the Astrodome.

Notably, the poll did not ask voters for their views of using taxpayer money to build a new facility to replace NRG Stadium, an option the Texans have explored in ongoing negotiations with Harris County…
