Richmond’s Lamar believed Little League World Series was its destiny since coach-pitch days

Nearly every 12-year-old who plays Little League baseball dreams of being part of a team that earns a trip to Williamsport, Pennsylvania as one of the 20 teams competing in the Little League World Series.

For the kids growing up in Richmond and playing in Lamar Little League, it was closer to an expectation than a pipe dream.

Lamar, making its third trip to the Little League World Series and first since 2004, opens tournament play against Fairfield, Connecticut at 6 p.m. Wednesday (ESPN). It will be a moment anticipated by players, coaches and parents since most of the group played together during their coach-pitch days…
