Most of Texas under Level 1 rain threat as parts of hurricane arrive, NWS warns

A weak mass of cooler air, coupled with remnants of a hurricane hitting Mexico, is expected to bring torrential downpours and increased flooding risk to the Lone Star State this weekend.

Hurricane Lorena, which formed off the western coast of Mexico earlier this week, is expected to make it to northern Mexico by Friday. Once it hits this region, the hurricane is forecast to weaken. From there, the remnant atmospheric moisture will move into Texas.

The combination of the cooler air mass and parts of the hurricane making their way through the Lone Star State will heighten risks of storms and localized flooding from El Paso to Houston over the weekend…
