Tech giant to begin $55M project in Katy

KATY, Texas — Another overseas technology manufacturer has chosen the Houston area for an artificial intelligence and electronics manufacturing plant.

Inventec Manufacturing (North America) Corp., a Taiwanese manufacturer, is set to begin building out the first phase of a $55 million improvement plan at 23623 Colonial Parkway in Katy in September, according to a Texas Department of Licensing and Regulation filing and confirmed to the Houston Business Journal by local economic development officials. The 540,000-square-foot site will be used for electronics manufacturing.

Inventec is an original device manufacturer, or ODM. The notable devices that Inventec builds, which are then rebranded and sold, include gaming laptops and Amazon’s Fire tablets and Kindle e-readers. The TDLR filing didn’t provide any details on what will be built at the plant, saying only the scope of work would remodel the building for “electronic component assembly.”…
