Texas Governor Greg Abbott Announces $7.9 Million in Grants for Veteran Services in Gulf Coast and Houston

Texas Governor Greg Abbott recently declared a substantial infusion of over $7.9 million in grants aimed at supporting various veteran service organizations in the Gulf Coast and Houston areas. This financial boost is set to impact more than 5,200 veterans along with their families, spanning across 13 counties. As part of the Texas Veterans Commission (TVC) Grants Across Texas Tour, this sum will help in provisioning a myriad of services, including financial assistance, legal support, and health provisions to the veteran community.

According to the Office of the Texas Governor press release, Abbott underscored the state’s commitment, stating, “In Texas, we will always stand with the brave men and women who selflessly fought for the freedom and liberties we enjoy today”. These funds serve as a tangible manifestation of Texas’ pledge to remember, assist, and honor the veterans and their indelible contribution to the state and the nation. Moreover, TVC Vice Chair and Army veteran Kevin Barber remarked on the significance of local resources and their vital role in supporting one of the highest populations of veterans in the United States.

The grants, administered through TVC, range from financial to housing assistance, and mental health to legal help. Among the beneficiaries is the Family Service Center of Houston and Harris County, which received $350,000 for financial aid, and Houston Habitat for Humanity, Inc., with $350,000 earmarked for their Housing for Texas Heroes program. For organizations like Lone Star Legal Aid, a grant of $350,000 will bolster pro bono legal services vital for those who’ve served our country…
