KATY, Texas (CW39) — A Katy Pride event planned at Typhoon Texas Waterpark has been canceled, with organizers calling the decision “disheartening and unjust.”
The event, which had been under contract since April according to Katy Pride representative and was set for Saturday as the kickoff to Katy Pride 2025, was canceled Wednesday, October 15. Katy Pride said Typhoon Texas voided the contract around 3:30 p.m. Wednesday, claiming it was due to safety concerns, despite there being no credible threats reported.
Organizers said they were not contacted before the cancellation. They also expressed concern over social media posts by former Katy ISD Board member Victor Perez, who reportedly urged people to “show up and make noise” while sharing messages such as “stop sexualizing children.” On Perez’s Facebook page, he also encouraged his 1.4K Followers who pushed back on his post to “Call the sponsors to express your objection,” also calling the event “Shameful!”…
