HOUSTON — Texas could soon become the national leader in dementia research — but that depends on voters this November. Proposition 14, also known as the Dementia Prevention and Research Institute of Texas (DPRIT), is on the ballot for voter approval.
The measure, championed by Lt. Governor Dan Patrick, would dedicate $3 billion over the next 10 years to fund dementia and Alzheimer’s research across the state. The goal: find better treatments, improve prevention, and ultimately work toward a cure.
“This can strike anyone, anywhere,” Patrick said in an exclusive interview with KHOU 11’s Marcelino Benito. “We have some of the finest hospitals and researchers now — why not expand and try to tackle this terrible disease?”
