High school volleyball: Dawson advances to state championship, Tompkins falls in semifinal

Dawson volleyball coach Lauren Leth knew when the playoffs began’ Oct. 30 that her time was ticking. She had, at most, six more matches leading the Eagles program. On Saturday evening, her players made sure she would get all six.

Dawson kept its historic season alive for one more week with a gritty 25-19, 22-25, 22-25, 25-22, 16-14 victory against San Antonio O’Connor in the UIL Class 6A Division I state semifinals at Delmar Fieldhouse.

Leth, who’s been at the helm since 2018, is stepping down from her post at the end of the season. She’s taking an assistant principal job at Pearland ISD’s Berry Miller Junior High School, so the playoff journey — which will end with the Eagles’ first appearance in the state championship — has been extra special for her…
