Contagious horse virus reaches a county in the Crossroads

WHARTON, Texas – The state is tracking a multi-state outbreak of a highly contagious horse virus that has now reached Wharton County.

Officials say the equine herpesvirus, traced to a rodeo event in Waco earlier this month, has led to 27 confirmed cases across seven states.

In Wharton County, one horse has tested positive for the neurologic strain, and nine others that were exposed are under quarantine. Fort Bend County has also reported a confirmed case…
