Texas barbecue joint brought back from brink expands into Houston

One of Greater Houston’s longer-running barbecue establishments is embarking on a new venture. Dozier’s BBQ of Fulshear, about 35 miles west of Houston in Fort Bend County, is one of two restaurants headed to downtown Houston’s The Finn, formerly known as Finn Hall. Dozier’s and the also-announced Hot Peckers, a hot chicken stand, will fill out the last two spots inside the food hall at 712 Main St.

Both Dozier’s and Hot Peckers are opening Dec. 1. In a statement, Finn Director of Operations Peter Grisaffe said the two concepts further the goal of the food hall becoming a dining destination that feels like “the heartbeat of downtown.”

Ed Dozier opened the original Dozier’s BBQ in Fulshear in 1957. A fire burned down the original, so a new Dozier’s emerged down the road. Dozier sold the business some years later, and it changed hands once more before money got real tight around the COVID-19 pandemic. In 2024, ownership shut down Dozier’s, and what seemed like forever. But in a turn of events, Ed Dozier’s great-grandson Tyler Risinger bought the place and reopened it in August 2024…
