Expanded Home Improvement Incentives Coming for Sugar Land Residents in 2026

The City of Sugar Land, Texas, will expand its Great Homes incentive program. The City Council approved the changes, which will take effect on January 1, 2026. The updated program will offer a 50% reimbursement for exterior home improvements to single-family homes in the bottom 3% of property values in the city. This change targets homeowners who have faced financial barriers to participation in the past.

Eligible projects include exterior painting, roofing, landscaping, and window or door replacements. Since February 2023, the Great Homes program has supported over 300 home projects. These projects have resulted in more than $5.3 million in private investment and $791,000 in reimbursements.

For the lowest-value homes, the reimbursement rate will increase from 10% or 25% to 50%. The minimum project cost will decrease from $4,000 to $500. Heir owners will also become eligible. The maximum reimbursement will remain at $10,000…
