Southeast Texas could see a light freeze as weekend cold front approaches

Thinking Mother Nature decided to skip Houston when it came to winter? Think again.

The National Weather Service on Saturday issued the first Freeze Watch of the season, kicking off late Sunday night and lasting through 8 a.m. on Monday. The watch covers Harris County and the city of Houston along with Fort Bend, Montgomery, San Jacinto, Liberty, Chambers, Waller, Austin, Colorado and Grimes counties.Temperatures are expected to drop to an expected range of 27 to 32 degrees in those areas and even colder north of Houston. While many Houstonians have anticipated the first freeze, plenty in the area got to experience a spring-like day on Saturday with temps in the upper 70s and even low 80s in some places. But it will be the last 80-degree day in the city for a little while.

A Freeze Watch is in effect for portions of SE Texas. Areas north of the watch area will reach freezing temperatures, but have already experienced a freeze this season; therefore, they are not included in the Watch.
