Texas’ 1st certified conservation cemetery now has Jewish area

The Jewish burial area at Blazing Star Sanctuary Conservation Cemetery in Brookshire, Texas, was dedicated Sunday, Dec. 7, in a consecration ceremony led by Rabbi Deborah Schloss of Shaarey Tzedek Synagogue.

Blazing Star Sanctuary is Texas’ first certified conservation cemetery. The natural burial grounds include almost eight acres within the Katy Prairie Preserve.

The ancient tradition of Jewish burial and modern values of sustainability beautifully intertwine. Jewish law requires returning a deceased body to the earth as swiftly as possible.
