Man receives 10-year probation with jail time in auto-pedestrian death case

A Fort Bend County man recently received a maximum 10-year probation plea with jail time in the first arrest in the county under the Lisa Torry Smith Act.

Bao Lung Giang was charged in a 2023 auto-pedestrian crash in the New Territory subdivision which resulted in the death of pedestrian Donald Yeager.

The law is named after Lisa Torry Smith, who lost her life to a motorist in a Fort Bend County crosswalk while walking her son to school in 2017. The law makes it an offense for a motorist, with criminal negligence, to fail to yield the right of way to a pedestrian in a clearly marked crosswalk and requires drivers to come to a full stop for any pedestrians or cyclists who are in the intersection.
