Richmond to get new outdoor walkable retail center as area’s growth explodes

A new open-air retail, dining and entertainment development is set to rise in Richmond, filling what developers say has been a longstanding gap in retail options for one of the Houston area’s fastest-growing suburban areas.

The Oaks of District West, an open-air retail, dining and entertainment destination, will rise at 21711 FM 1093 in Richmond, about 30 miles southwest of downtown Houston. Forman Capital closed a $37.1 million construction loan to finance the project on Dec. 18, 2025.

The project is being developed by Ferguson Family Partners and will feature roughly 87,000 square feet of leasable space spread across 10 buildings. Designed as a walkable, open-air center, the development will include a central green space aimed at creating a gathering place for nearby residents…
