A Stafford woman has been taken into custody on charges of capital murder in connection to her husband’s death, some 22 years after the event, Stafford Police announced. Jody Johnston Humphrey, was apprehended on the 22nd anniversary of Jerry Don Humphrey’s demise, in a twist that underscores the enduring pursuit of resolution in long-dormant cases.
“Making an arrest on the 22nd anniversary of this crime serves as a powerful reminder that justice has no expiration date,” Lt. Luciano Lopez was quoted in a Click2Houston report. Currently, Jody is housed at the Fort Bend County Jail, awaiting further proceedings. Meanwhile, details regarding where the arrest took place, or Jody’s alleged involvement in her husband’s death, remain undisclosed to the public.
A previous suspect, Angel Amescua, Jr., was arrested in 2020. He was an ex-employee of the victim, and at the time, was accused in connection with the murder as well. It was on Dec. 22, 2003, when the Stafford police were alerted to a home about a man unresponsive. Upon arrival, they discovered Jerry Don Humphrey dead from multiple gunshot wounds in his bedroom.
