Light freeze possible Tuesday & Wednesday mornings

HOUSTON (CW39) – Cold air has settled into Southeast Texas after an overnight front. Besides gusty conditions, the front also brought another round of freeze concerns for parts of the region.

Late Monday night into Tuesday morning, temperatures will fall into the 30s across much of the area, with the highest likelihood of freezing temperatures north and northwest of the Houston metro, including the Piney Woods and areas near Crockett and Livingston.

Most of the Houston metro core should stay just above freezing, while coastal locations remain cold but above 32 degrees.

Tuesday night into Wednesday morning is expected to be the coldest morning. Clear skies and lighter winds will allow temperatures to drop more efficiently overnight. A light freeze is likely for many locations north and west of Houston, with freezing temperatures possible as far south as parts of Brazoria County, including near Angleton. Confidence is highest for freezing temperatures north of I-10 and along the northern and western edges of the metro, while coastal areas should stay above freezing but still wake up to very cold conditions.

The National Weather Service recommends:

  • Cover exposed skin and dress for the cold
  • Limit time outdoors
  • Checking in on the vulnerable or those without a reliable heat source
  • Protecting outdoor exposed pipes
  • Covering or bringing in sensitive plants
  • Pets should be brought indoors or given warm shelter
  • Space heaters should be used safely and away from flammable materials

Cold weather preparations should be completed before sunset, as temperatures can fall quickly once winds relax and skies clear…
