HOUSTON (CW39) — A Florida woman is being accused of an online scam where she tried to raise money using the name of a victim of the deadly July floods in the Texas Hill Country, authorities said.
Maitlin White, 28, of Crestview, Fla., has been charged by the Harris County Precinct 1 Constable’s Office of participating in a scam where she posted fundraising campaigns on the internet days after the July 8, 2025 floods.
She pretended to be the family of Chloe Childress, who was one of the 25 victims who lost their lives at Camp Mystic during the floods. Childress, 19, was a camp counselor at Camp Mystic and had just graduated from The Kinkaid School.
