FORT BEND COUNTY, Texas — Parents in Fort Bend County are planning to protest outside Arizona Fleming Elementary on Friday morning as concerns grow over Fort Bend ISD’s proposed attendance boundary changes.

While Fort Bend ISD says the plans are still in draft form, families say the uncertainty surrounding the proposal is already taking an emotional toll.

District leaders say they are reviewing draft attendance boundary plans to address declining enrollment and underused schools across the district. According to district officials, some campuses are operating far below capacity, while others are overcrowded, prompting a district-wide look at elementary-level rezoning.

Parents worry about stability for students

Parents say the proposed boundary changes could have a real impact on their children’s daily lives. At Sugar Mill Elementary, one of the schools listed in the draft proposals, families worry about how potential rezoning could disrupt routines students depend on.

“My son has ADHD, and it’s hard for him to grab onto a routine if he’s broken up from the school or the community around him,” said parent Nicholas Nowlin.
