Fears of ‘exploding trees’ after an extreme freeze are overblown, Texas A&M experts say

Many Americans are suddenly concerned about “exploding trees” during this weekend’s winter storm after exaggerated claims and fake videos spread online, alarming people as they braced for the arctic front.

The term took off after a viral tweet from meteorology influencer Max Schuster said the storm’s subfreezing temperatures would trigger the phenomenon in parts of the country.
