Fort Bend County DA under investigation over prosecution of the county judge

Fort Bend County District Attorney Brian Middleton is the subject of a criminal investigation relating the prosecution of County Judge KP George and he should be disqualified from further dealing with that case, according to a motion filed by George in the Fort Bend County district court.

The State of Texas, through its Assistant District Attorney, objected to the Defendant’s motion for continuance and motion to disqualify the Fort Bend County District Attorney’s Office and requested that these matters be set for hearing prior to the trial set to begin February 3, 2026.

District Judge Maggie Jaramillo on Friday, Jan. 30, granted the motion to continue and ruled the motion to disqualify be reviewed in camera once the evidence is submitted under seal. She permitted the state to copy the Defense exhibit, a flash drive filed on 01/29, 2026. The flash drive contains 20 minutes of audio recording between Middleton and Taral Patel, who struck a plea deal with the DA, to buttress George’s claim that his prosecution was politically motivated…
