Existing-home sales down over 8%, according to report

TEXAS — Existing-home sales fell 8.4% in January 2026. Month-over-month and year-over-year sales decreased in all regions, according to a report from the National Association of REALTORS®. One economist with the association described the decrease as disappointing.

Vika O’Grady, a market research adviser for the Austin Board of Realtors, said some sellers are adjusting prices or making concessions to have their homes sold. It’s a trend that is also being seen in other major cities like Dallas, San Antonio and Houston, where sellers are still holding on to a higher price.

“Those sellers who maybe are reaching a little bit higher and anticipating or thinking about what the market might have than it was back in the day, they may be sitting a little bit longer,” said O’Grady…
