Deputy who was helping stranded driver critically injured in hit-and-run wreck on Katy Freeway, sheriff’s office says

HOUSTON — A Fort Bend County Sheriff’s Office deputy is in critical but stable condition after being struck by a vehicle on the Katy Freeway early Saturday morning.

According to a Facebook post, from the sheriff’s office, the deputy — identified as Deputy Lewis — was helping a stranded driver at around 3:40 a.m. on I-10 near Eldridge Road when the crash happened. According to the sheriff’s office, he was in his personal vehicle and had pulled over to help when a passing vehicle hit him and left the scene.

The deputy was taken to the hospital for treatment. The Houston Police Department is investigating. The sheriff’s office asked for prayers for Lewis and his family…
