In the Republican primary for the U.S. Senate, incumbent Sen. John Cornyn competed against Texas Attorney General Ken Paxton and Houston‑area U.S. Rep. Wesley Hunt for the GOP nomination. Unofficial results show that none of the three candidates received more than 50% of the vote, with Cornyn leading Paxton by a narrow margin and Hunt finishing third, which means Cornyn and Paxton will advance to a runoff election on May 26 to determine the party’s nominee for the general election.
