PopStroke’s Katy outpost is back in action after a roughly monthlong renovation that toned down some of the Tiger-branded flair and freshened up both putting courses and guest areas. The two-course setup is still the same on paper, but regulars will notice new routing, fresh turf and reworked signage that leans into a more local, PopStroke-first identity. Hole angles and color schemes have shifted in spots where Tiger or TGR references used to jump out.
The changes, including a swap of the original TGR Ventures layouts for designs created by PopStroke’s in-house team, were detailed by the Houston Business Journal, which also ran photos by Florian Martin that show off the new signage and course tweaks. According to the paper, the Katy location went dark for about a month while crews repainted, returfed and adjusted several holes. In a statement to the outlet, PopStroke framed the work as part of an effort to “build its own identity,” the report said.
What Changed On The Greens
The Katy PopStroke originally opened in December 2022 with two 18-hole putting courses credited to Tiger Woods’ TGR Design, a detail highlighted in early coverage of the venue’s debut by Eater Houston. Parkway Construction also lists the Katy project as featuring TGR-designed courses. The recent work kept the overall footprint but involved returfed greens, adjusted hole routing and updated wayfinding across the courses to match PopStroke’s refreshed brand direction.
Why The Branding Shift
PopStroke’s decision to pull back on overt Tiger branding is not accidental. The operator told the Houston Business Journal it wants a clearer company identity instead of relying on a celebrity tie-in. That kind of move can make it easier for the chain to sell restaurant reservations, private events and memberships on its own name as it pushes into new markets. In Katy, the shift translates to a cleaner visual look and a setup that puts more emphasis on repeat visits built around food, drinks and events, with the putting as just one part of the night out.
What Visitors Should Expect
The refreshed Katy facility still has the classic PopStroke combo: two outdoor putting courses, a rooftop bar, an ice cream parlor and a full food lineup. This time, though, the PopStroke logo and color scheme are front and center. Renovation images show updated menu boards and a course palette that feels less celebrity-centric and more brand-forward…
